Top 5 areas in your Salon Business to focus on in 2020
When Covid19 starts to settle down we will be getting back to salon life. To help get you back on track we have narrowed down some areas of the business that will help you thrive and grow like never before. Now we are sure that you work on some or all of these but using this as a guide for successes going forward in 2020 - 2021 will only set you up for EVEN MORE success.
5. LOYALTY AND REWARD PROGRAMS:
Are you currently offered a rewards program by your color line, product lines and/or distributor? If you are- is it something you can see value in? Is there money put back into your pocket each month? Or are you stuck with thousands of POINTS that have strict rules or you couldn’t possibly use another t shirt or color bowl. Now is the time to analyze what you are getting back into the salon with your favorite brands.
4. GET OUT OF YOUR COLOR COMFORT ZONE:
Is this you? You have 4 blonde formulas you use on the regular. You know that tube of 4N from a certain brand will give you the same result over and over. You stick with a color line that has letters because you know B is for beige and V is for violet. Doing color and being a colorist are two totally different things. Using color and understanding color are also two different things. You decided on this as a career so act like it. Sometimes we have to learn things that may intimidate us or we think that are hard. But it’s like riding a bike once you get it you have got it. Find training with a brand that can offer you this. Constantly educate yourself and play with new formulas that will help you grow behind the chair.
3. SET YOUR SALON BUSINESS APART:
Have you ever taken a stroll through some of the competing salons in your area? There are many things that can set salons apart- services offered, products represented, expertise level, decor… the list goes on. Being the same as everyone else is not what will set you ahead. Being unique will. Stay ahead of the game when it comes to trends or the next big thing in services or products offered. Your clients come to you because of your knowledge and expertise. Trust yourself and the decisions you make.
2. RETAIL RETAIL RETAIL:
This is a big topic. So let’s think about this for a minute. If we think about retail in terms of clothing we are more inclined to always be on the hunt for something unique. For the most part, we are looking for the newest hottest trend. That being said you must STAND OUT with your offerings on the salon shelf. I know if you’re in Vancouver, for example, 80% of the salons actually offer the SAME brands. NEWSFLASH if your clients trust you they will buy what you suggest. Please be very mindful of the brands you are carrying.Where else can you buy them? Are they diverted? Brands will tell you they have anti diversion policies but the proof is in the pudding. Head down the shampoo aisle at your local drug store. You will be shocked, I promise.
1. HAVE A VISION AND A MANTRA WITH CLAIMS YOU CAN BACK UP 100%
What is your Mantra or vision? Are you an Eco friendly salon? Do you promote cruelty free products? Is your salon plant based or vegan? All of these things are important to someone out there. We are starting to see a trend in salons that are promoting this. The down fall ..... We are seeing salons that are uneducated or misinformed about their offerings. How many times have we seen a salon shout Cruelty Free from the roof top and then their product offerings are NOT. The reality is the MAJOR brands on this planet are NOT cruelty free or Vegan or Eco friendly. This mostly lies in the indie brand market and that is starting to really grow within Canada. So how do you get educated? Research, Research, Research! Also choose your direction in the salon based on passion. It’s much easier to sell something when you actually believe in it!
